xMinds is excited to announce that former Executive Director, Monica Martinez, now a special education advocate with Suzanne Keith Blattner, Ed.S. & Associates, will be our key note speaker this year. Ms. Martinez will will discuss the topic of writing measurable IEP goals, specifically addressing the role of "present levels of performance” and appropriate metrics of progress.

After the presentation, parents who have registered will meet with an educational advocate or attorney by appointment for a 15-minute consultation regarding their most pressing IEP issue.

Spanish interpretation will be available for the keynote presentation and one consultant will be Spanish speaking. Advanced registration for Spanish interpretation is required.

xMinds se complace en anunciar que la ex Directora Ejecutiva, Mónica Martínez, ahora defensora de educación especial con Suzanne Keith Blattner, Ed.S. & Associates, será nuestro orador principal este año. La Sra. Martínez discutirá el tema de escribir metas medibles en el IEP, específicamente abordando el papel de "niveles actuales de desempeño" y métricas apropiadas de progreso.

Después de la presentación, los padres que se hayan registrado se reunirán con un defensor educativo o un abogado con cita previa para una consulta de 15 minutos sobre su problema de IEP más apremiante.

Habrá interpretación en español para la presentación principal y un consultor será de habla hispana. Se requiere inscripción avanzada para interpretación en Español.

Monica Martinez came to educational advocacy through her direct experience of advocating for appropriate special education services for her autistic son. Through her seven plus years of involvement in xMinds, Monica developed an in depth understanding of how Montgomery County Public Schools educates students on the autism spectrum and how to navigate the district’s special education system. Monica’s areas of expertise are services and accommodations for students on the autism spectrum, as well as those with ADHD and/or co-morbid mental health issues.  Monica also works to help parents and guardians understand the educational rights of their children.
