Workshop Leader:  Jean Hickey, M.Ed, Educational Therapist

For ASD students of all ages, staying organized can be a challenge! The right organizational tools can help. In this small-group workshop, Educational Therapist Jean Hickey will help you design organizational tools that fit your child’s individual needs (e.g. visual schedules, backpack “ready tags,” token boards, etc). xMinds will provide the materials and Jean will provide instruction and advice. Connect with other xMinds parents while you discuss with Jean any topic of educational concern – homework is a popular one! Coffee and snacks provided.

Speaker Bio: Jean Hickey is a highly skilled special educator and has worked as an educational therapist for over 25 years. Before that, Jean was a classroom teacher in Prince George’s County, a director of a special education non-governmental organization in Botswana and a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco. Jean has experience teaching students with a variety of complex learning needs, including learning disabilities, ADD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fragile X, Down Syndrome and many rare genetic disorders. Jean’s extensive background, ongoing training, and experience has provided her with the skills to support academic skill development using a variety of evidence-based interventions. Jean earned her bachelor’s degree in severe special needs from Boston College and a master’s degree in special education from the University of Maryland, College Park. One of Jean’s passions is to support parents and she does this through her open-door policy in all of her individual sessions and by talking to parents at conferences, workshops and xMinds meetings.

This event is interactive; there will be active participation from attendees.
