Cost: Free

12 noon -- Keynote Speaker, Kimberly Glassman, Esq. (both in-person and available simultaneously on Zoom)

1:00 PM to 4:00 PM -- Scheduled consultation sessions (in-person only)

xMinds is excited to announce that special education attorney Kimberly Glassman will be our keynote speaker this year.  Ms. Glassman will discuss the timely topic of compensatory education -- something a lot of parents want to understand as their children return to school after a challenging year of distance learning. Ms. Glassman will cover what compensatory education is, what parents should consider when making a request, how parents can request compensatory education, and what parents can do if they disagree with the school's decision concerning compensatory education.

After the presentation, parents who have registered will meet with an educational advocate by appointment for a 20-minute consultation regarding their most pressing IEP issue.

Spanish interpretation will be available for the keynote presentation (both virtual and in person), and one consultant will speak Spanish and will have the ability to translate other languages using a video app. If you require a non-English consultation, please indicate that when you register.

COVID Protocols: You are welcome to join us in person only if you are fully vaccinated or have received a negative COVID test within 72 hours prior to the event. Masks are required at this event regardless of vaccination status. Due to social distancing requirements, we will cap the in-person attendees for the keynote address at 75. Please register to ensure you'll have a spot reserved.

Consults:  You will receive your appointment time by email a few days after you register. Read about our excellent professional consultants below.

Should I Watch the Keynote on Zoom or In-Person? When you register for this event, you will receive a Zoom link for the keynote address. If you comply with our COVID requirements, you also have the option of attending the keynote address in person. Whether you choose to watch the keynote address on Zoom or in person may depend on your appointment time.  If you have an appointment before 2pm, you may want to attend the keynote address in person, so you will be at UUCR already for your appointment. If you have an appointment after 2pm, you may want to watch the address on Zoom and arrive at UUCR 15 minutes before your appointment, so as to avoid a long wait time at UUCR. You will be assigned an appointment slot by email a few days after you register.

Snacks:  Snacks will be supplied, but due to Covid restrictions, you will only be able to eat them outdoors.

Keynote Speaker: Kimberly Glassman, Esq.,  Law Office of Brian K. Gruber, P.C.
Kimberly Glassman has represented parents, legal guardians and adult students in all phases of special education matters since 2005, including at IEP meetings, student discipline, due process hearings, special education mediation, and appeals.
