Dr. Jaclyn Halpern will present on Positive Parenting, which is based on neuroscientific research that strongly indicates connection, co-regulation, and gentle discipline are the most effective techniques for raising emotionally healthy children, building strong relationships, promoting growth mindset, and supporting and improving underlying emotional and behavioral concerns. In positive parenting, caregivers seek to understand the emotions and the 'why's' beneath a child's behavior. Positive parenting rests on the understanding that, if a child is dysregulated and engaging in challenging behaviors, they have underlying unmet needs or wants, and undeveloped skills. In positive parenting, big emotions are allowed and welcomed, even while boundaries, limits, and rules are modeled and upheld.

Dr. Halpern will discuss:

- What science says discipline should be

- How to co-regulate and connect with dysregulated children

- Hope to build emotional closeness with children through empathy and respect

- How to look for and respond to the 'why's' beneath a child's behavior

- How to use your child's strengths and individuality to build connection

- How to set, model, and uphold boundaries, limits, and rules while positive parenting
