Join us to learn how Restorative Justice is implemented in MCPS, and how it impacts special education students.
As of 2019, a new law in Maryland required restorative justice practices to be included in school systems to minimize school suspensions. At that time, (3) specialists were part of the program. Then the pandemic hit. Today, there are (9) instructors, including Floyd Branch.
Floyd Branch is a Restorative Justice Instruction Specialist supporting the Walter Johnson, Quince Orchard, John F. Kennedy, Col. Zadok E. Magruder and Montgomery Virtual Academy Clusters.
He is part of the Student Engagement, Behavioral Health and Academics Division; supporting all stakeholders with their equity, restorative disciplinary approaches and well-being initiatives.
He has worked in education for 16 years, and in MCPS since 2015, starting as a special education teacher then resource teacher for special education at Francis Scott Key Middle School. Before coming to MCPS, he worked in NYC public schools.
Mr. Branch's presentation will cover:
