In June 2022, Governor Hogan signed SB 636, legislation designed to help decrease wait times for Maryland’s Autism Waiver and other waiver programs. The plan for this “End the Wait Act” is to cut the waitlist for the state’s Autism Waiver in half by 2024. While the program serves approximately 1,300 of Maryland’s children with intensive services through age 21, there are over 6,000 on the current wait list with waiting times that can last for 8 to 9 years. Our speakers who oversee Autism Waiver coordination in Howard, Harford and Montgomery Counties, will discuss important changes coming to the Waiver, plans to reduce that wait list, and what that means for children and families in our state.
