In this professional workshop, Donna Henderson, PhD will describe the diagnostic criteria for Autism and the many ways they can present, particularly in bright individuals with less obvious Autistic traits. Sondra Wolff, LCSW will review traits that may cause Autistic people to be more vulnerable to emotional dysregulation and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Using a neuro-affirmative lens and recordings of therapy sessions, we will discuss: 1) how to recognize Autism using the most current frameworks 2) why the lived experience of Autism and trauma are closely intertwined, and 3) therapeutic approaches used to promote well-being for this population.
