The growing recognition of the impact of trauma on health and behavior has led to increasing attention on “trauma-informed care,” an overarching term used to indicate practices that recognize and consider the experiences of traumatic events in individuals and families in all aspects of service delivery. The components of trauma informed care for youth with autism and other developmental disabilities are complex and can be challenging to implement as trauma can take many forms. Join us for an exploration of the intersection between trauma and autism and other developmental and intellectual disabilities aimed at enhancing support for youth, adolescents, and young adults by professionals and caregivers of these populations. Learn how trauma affects the brain and behavior, identify trauma responses, and implement your own trauma-informed interventions and support, based upon the framework established by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
