MCPS' Division of Specialized Support Services will hold a webinar for families focused on what’s new in special education services, staffing, and supports — and why. NOTE FROM THE XMINDS POLICY TEAM:

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is hosting this vital information session to discuss the ongoing changes to special education services, staffing, and support.

As we have tracked through our recent meetings with district leadership, MCPS is currently executing a departmental reorganization. This shift is moving the district toward a Home School Model (HSM), intended to provide supports for autistic students who are not currently served in discrete programs by deploying behavioral specialists and increasing site-based expertise.

However, our Advocacy Policy Team remains concerned about the significant staffing reductions in the Autism Unit (proposed to drop from 19 FTEs to 10.4) and how these changes will translate into actual support for our children in the classroom.

Why You Should Attend

This is a critical opportunity for parents to hear directly from administrators and to push for concrete details on how this "Future Ready" vision will impact your child’s IEP implementation.

Prepare Your Advocacy

If you cannot attend, we encourage you to submit these questions via the feedback forms provided by MCPS. We will be collecting parent feedback after the webinar to evaluate the district's responses.
