This session introduces a practical, team-based AAC assessment protocol that combines feature matching with a structured preference assessment to guide thoughtful, evidence-aligned decisions.

Participants will:

  • Identify and apply key steps in a transdisciplinary feature matching process
  • Articulate the defined roles, responsibilities, and shared resources within the assessment protocol to enhance interdisciplinary communication, streamline decision-making, and improve documentation practices
  • Describe and implement procedures for assessing learner preference across
  • AAC modalities or speech-generating devices, reference supporting research for this measure, and incorporate caregiver social validity data to inform and finalize modality selection
