    Location: Virtual

    Cost: $50 per group session

Registration: Register online or contact Robyn Davy, 301-424-5200 ext.229.

Dates: Mondays, from 4 - 5:15 PM, November 9 to January 4 (no session December 21).

There are times when every caregiver feels confused about what their child needs from them. As a result, behaviors and tantrums happen that can leave parents wondering, “What just happened?” What if you were able to understand what your child was really asking for? The Circle of Security® Parenting™ program is an evidenced-based program that promotes and strengthens secure parent-child relationships. Research supports that children with secure parent-child relationships tend to solve problems on their own, have higher self-esteem, feel less anger at their caregivers, and worry less about the future.

    Date and Time:  Wednesday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

    Location:  Online

    Cost: Free

Individuals on the autism spectrum frequently struggle with anxiety, but parents and teachers don’t always recognize it for what it is.

Why?  Because students on the spectrum experience anxiety differently than neurotypical students.

What are the triggers we sometimes overlook? What are the unexpected reactions anxiety causes? What approaches are best for supporting these students at home and in class?

Join us to find out how anxiety may be affecting your child on the autism spectrum, and what you can do to help.

    Our guest speakers will be:

Jonathan Dalton, Ph.D., licensed psychologist and founder and director of the Center for Anxiety and Behavioral Change (CABC) in Rockville, MD.

Jeremy Pedneau, an autistic young adult living in Montgomery County with his parents and working as a piano tuner. (If you have questions for Jeremy, please submit them when you register before December 14.)

MoCo PEERS® is offered by certified PEERS® instructors, Caron Starobin, LCSW-C and Jamell White, Ph.D., LCSW-C, trained by Elizabeth Laugeson, Psy.D., Founder and Director of the UCLA PEERS® Clinic. The groups emphasize learning, rehearsing, and practicing social skills in a warm, supportive, enjoyable, and focused group setting. Group members support each other to actively practice with their peers as they learn and develop tools to improve their relationship skills. The groups also include social coaching sessions for parents or family members. These sessions support parents and family members by teaching them how to be effective social coaches with teens and young adults whom require a greater sense of independence during this time in their lives.
